A Journey to Kota Tua: Riding the Rails from Daru Station to Jakarta Kota Station

Weekends are made for escaping the routine. This time, I decided to go on a little nostalgic trip to Kota Tua Jakarta. Instead of taking a car, a bus, or an online ride, I chose to take the commuter line from Daru Station. It's cheaper, and honestly, there's just something different about it.

Starting from Daru Station, a Calm Morning. At 9 AM, I was already hanging out at Daru Station. It's quiet, not as crowded as the stations in the city center. I tapped my card and walked in. The sound of the train slowly approaching from the distance-honestly, it always gets me excited.

A Long ride, but worth the experience. The train from Daru runs on the Tanah Abang–Rangkasbitung Line. The route is quite long, but if you enjoy watching the city slowly shift from countryside to urban, this is totally worth it.

I passed stations like Cicayur, Cisauk, Parung Panjang, Serpong, and eventually arrived at Tanah Abang Station. This is where I had to transfer to the line heading to Jakarta Kota. Usually, you switch to a train going toward Manggarai or directly to Jakarta Kota. Don’t worry, it’s well-signed, and the station staff are always helpful.

Jakarta Kota Station: The Gateway to Kota Tua

After about 2 hours on the road (yeah, pretty long, but comfy), I finally arrived at Jakarta Kota Station. The moment you step outside, the vibe changes completely: colonial buildings, cobbled streets, colorful vintage bikes, and the smell of local street food. Kota Tua has this nostalgic charm that’s hard to beat.

I chilled and, of course… took lots of photos. It really feels like stepping back in time with a modern twist. Plenty of young people come here for content creation or just to hang out.

Heading Home with a Heart Full of Stories. As the day started to wind down, I made my way back to Jakarta Kota Station. Hopped on a train back to Tanah Abang Station, and then continued to Daru Station. Tired? Yeah. But so satisfied. Taking the commuter train to Kota Tua isn’t just about the destination, it’s about the whole journey.

*Tips for First-Timers:

- Use the KRL Access app or an e-money card to make entering the station easier.

- Bring water and a headset if you love listening to music.

- Avoid rush hour if you don’t like packed trains.

- Don’t forget your camera or phone for some aesthetic shots in Kota Tua.
